Slide to move the sun across the building
Architecture & Interior · Bangkok
Design with climate,
not against it.
A cool house starts with the plan, not the air-conditioner. Before we place any building, we look at how the sun moves across its site through the day.
01 · Approach
Good design looks after people and the planet. We start from the sun, the wind and the daily life of the people who will live there, then find our own way to make it beautiful.
Orientation
Turn away from the western afternoon sun and toward the prevailing breeze
Shading
Screens, eaves and shading panels keep the heat out of the house
Ventilation
Openings that let the wind through and carry the heat away
Daylight
Bright enough, without the heat or the glare

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does MAKE IT POP design?
Architecture, from houses, pool villas and hostels to commercial buildings. Interiors and built-in furniture for homes, condominiums, cafes, shops and offices. And renovations of existing buildings. We are designers; we do not build.
What is ecological architecture, and what difference does it make?
It is design that starts from the site itself: where the sun comes from, which way the wind blows. The building, its openings and its shading are then placed to work with them. The house takes in less heat, needs less air-conditioning and stays comfortable for years.
How can a house stay cool in Thailand without running the air-conditioning all day?
A cool house starts with the plan, not the air-conditioner. We turn the building away from the afternoon sun, shade it with screens, deep eaves or a second skin, and open real paths for the wind to move through.
What do you use to keep a house from overheating?
Before we lay out a plan, we run a sunlight simulation of the actual site. It shows which walls take the most heat, and that tells us where to open up and where to close.
Does MAKE IT POP build?
No. We design. We produce full construction drawings and material specifications, and you choose your own contractor, or we can recommend one. During construction we visit the site and advise, so what gets built matches the drawings.
Where do you work?
The studio is in Bangkok, and we design projects all over Thailand: so far in Chiang Mai, Nan, Prachinburi, Pattaya, Loei and Phetchabun, as well as in Australia.
How do I get in touch?
Message us on LINE (gongcc36), call +66 82 914 5396 or email info@makeitpop-studio.com. Tell us briefly what you want to build, where, and roughly how big, and we will set a time to talk it through.
